Description

The 5 Francs Lavrillier coin, minted in 1945 in Castelsarrasin, is a French coin with a face value of 5 francs. It is made of bronze-aluminum, which gives it a particular color and durability. It weighs 12 grams and its diameter is 31 millimeters.

The obverse of the coin features a laureate head of the Republic, facing left. The Republic is depicted with long, flowing hair. The legend "REPVBLIQVE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in capital letters around the portrait. The name of the engraver, A. LAVRILLIER, is also mentioned on this face.

The reverse of the coin bears a four-line inscription, arranged in the center. It reads "RF", followed by the face value "5 FRANCS" and the year of issue "1945". This inscription is framed by a stylized laurel wreath, adorned with seven distinct rings. This wreath symbolizes glory and prosperity.

The edge of the coin is smooth, without any inscription or particular motif. The mint responsible for striking this coin is identified by the letter "C", which corresponds to the Castelsarrasin mint in France. This mint was in operation until 1946.

André-Henri Lavrillier is the engraver to whom we owe the artistic design of this coin. His name appears on both the obverse and the reverse, attesting to his central role in the creation of this currency.
