Description

This French banknote, with a face value of 1000 francs, was issued in 1960. It weighs 1 unspecified weight unit and belongs to the W.608 series.

The front of the note features a polychrome print with a predominantly yellow and gray color scheme. A floral frame adorned with a background of repeated stylized flowers frames the central elements. The following inscriptions are printed in black: the name of the issuing institution, "BANQUE DE L'ALGÉRIE", the face value "MILLE FRANCS", the serial number of the note, the official signatures, and the date of issue. On the right, we observe the representation of the goddess of magic, Isis, in the form of a profile head. At the bottom of the frame, Article 139 of the Penal Code is printed on two lines in Latin characters. You can also read the inscriptions "BANQUE DE L'ALGÉRIE", "MILLE FRANCS", "L'ARTICLE 139 DU CODE PENAL PUNIT DES TRAVAUX FORCES LE CONTREFACTEUR", as well as the mentions "W. FEL FEC." and "A. MARLIAT SC.". André Marliat is identified as the engraver, while William Fel is credited as the designer.

The back of the note features a similar polychrome print, predominantly yellow and gray, with a floral frame and a background of repeated stylized flowers. The text of the issuing institution, "BANQUE DE L'ALGIÈRE", is translated into Arabic and integrated into the frame. A plowing scene, inspired by an antique mosaic preserved in the public museum of Cherchell, is depicted on the left. Article 139 of the Penal Code, translated into Arabic, is printed in blue on two lines at the bottom of the frame. The dimensions of this banknote are 184 mm in length and 93 mm in width.
