French notes, notgelt, necessity notes from 1914 to 1925

This section groups together the bonds issued in France during the period from 1914 to 1925. These emergency banknotes, which appeared due to shortages of metallic currency during and after the First World War, bear witness to an era of economic and social upheaval.

The bonds from this period were issued by various entities: Chambers of Commerce, municipalities, companies, and even individuals. Their face value and circulation area were often limited, reflecting the local nature of these emergency issues.

The collection of these 1914-1925 emergency banknotes offers a unique insight into French monetary history and the difficulties encountered by the population during and after the war. The motifs, signatures, and mentions on these bonds are valuable sources of information about the local economy and the actors of that time.

Collectors are interested in the variety of issuers, the different denominations, the types of paper used, and the states of conservation of these bonds. The rarity of some specimens makes them sought-after pieces by numismatists.
