The 100 Cruzeiros Reais banknote, issued by the Banco Central do Brasil in 1993, represents a period of monetary transition in Brazil. This banknote belongs to the Cruzeiros Réais series, which circulated between 1993 and 1994.
On the obverse, the banknote features a naturalistic scene depicting a Blue-chested Hummingbird (Amazilia lactea) feeding its chicks in a nest. This representation symbolizes Brazilian fauna. There is also a round stamp indicating the value of 100 Cruzeiros Reais. The inscriptions include the name of the issuing institution, "BANCO CENTRAL DO BRASIL", as well as the nominal value in words, "CEM MIL CRUZEIROS". The phrase "DEUS SEJA LOUVADO" (God be praised) is also present, along with the signatures of the Minister of Fazenda and the President of the Banco Central do Brasil.
The reverse of the banknote offers a panoramic view of the Iguazu Falls, a natural site located on the border between Brazil and Argentina. This image highlights the natural beauty of Brazil and its geographical position in South America. The nominal value, "CEM MIL CRUZEIROS", is repeated. The inscription "CATARATAS DO IGUAÇU (FRONTEIRA BRASIL / ARGENTINA)" clearly identifies the place represented.
The watermark of the banknote represents the effigy of the Republic, a national symbol of Brazil. The banknote was printed by the Casa da Moeda do Brasil, the national printing house of Brazil. Its dimensions are 140 mm in length and 65 mm in width.
