The 1 Cruzeiro Novo banknote, issued in 1967 by Brazil, features a polychrome design dominated by blue, created using chalcography and offset techniques. On the front, an oval medallion highlights Pedro Alvares Cabral, a historical figure associated with the discovery of Brazil. The inscription "REPÚBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL" adorns the top, while the inscription "MIL CRUZEIROS / VALOR LEGAL" indicates the face value. The print number and serial number appear on the left, framing the sequence number and the signature of the director of the sinking fund. On the right, there is the order number, another print number, the serial number, and the signature of the Minister of Finance. A round stamp, bearing the inscription "BANCO CENTRAL - 1 CRUZEIRO NOVO", completes the visual.
The back of the banknote features an orange hue obtained by chalcography. It reproduces the painting "Primeira missa no Brasil" by Victor Meirelles, dating from 1860, accompanied by the legend "PRIMEIRA MISSA". The label "REPUBLICA DOS / ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL" is also present. The dimensions of this banknote are 157 mm in length and 67 mm in width.
This banknote is part of the new cruzeiro series, which circulated from 1967 to 1970. The American Bank Note Company participated in the design and printing of this banknote, whose graphics are attributed to Victor Meirelles for the scene depicted on the back.
