Description

In 2020, the Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich) issued a Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) set to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. This set is part of the Austrian tradition of producing annual euro coin series intended for collectors.

The set includes all Austrian euro coins struck for the year 2020, ranging from the 1 cent to the 2 euro coin. The Brilliant Uncirculated quality guarantees coins struck with particular care, featuring refined surfaces and well-defined reliefs, distinguishing these pieces from coins intended for general circulation.

Austrian euro coins feature iconic motifs from the country. The 1 cent coin depicts a gentian flower, the 2 cent coin an edelweiss, and the 5 cent coin an Alpine primrose. The 10, 20 and 50 cent coins feature St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, one of the most representative monuments of Austrian Gothic architecture. The 1 euro coin is adorned with the famous portrait of Mozart, an essential figure of Austria's musical heritage, while the 2 euro coin depicts the Vienna Secession building, an iconic structure of the artistic movement of the same name.

This set was produced in a limited edition of 50,000 copies, a mintage that makes it a limited collector's item, reflecting the importance of the commemoration with which it is associated. The theme chosen for this vintage recalls the historical significance of the end of the Second World War in 1945, an event whose repercussions were particularly felt in Austria, formerly annexed by the Nazi regime through the Anschluss of 1938, until the country's liberation in May 1945.
