This 50-franc banknote, issued by the Bank of Algeria on February 2, 1945, is distinguished by its specific illustrations and watermarks. It measures 145 mm in length and 92 mm in width.
The front of the banknote features a man and a woman on the right. The legal notices include the name of the issuing bank, "BANQUE DE L'ALGÉRIE", as well as the face value "CINQUANTE FRANCS". The signatures of the chief cashier and the secretary-general are also present. A legal inscription recalls the penal sanctions incurred for counterfeiting, stipulating that "art. 139 of the penal code punishes counterfeiters with forced labor for life." The names of the artists who participated in the creation of the banknote are mentioned: LÉON CARRÉ (FEC.) and E. DELOCHE (SC.).
The back of the banknote represents the El-Djem amphitheater, located in Tunisia. The face value "50" is repeated twice. The names of the artists, LÉON CARRÉ (FEC.) and E. DELOCHE (SC.), are also present on the back.
The banknote has a watermark that can be of two types depending on the reference: either a head (P#84) or lettering (P#87). The series of this banknote is D.1683.
Léon Georges Jean-Baptiste Carré is credited as the designer of the banknote, while Ernest Deloche is identified as the engraver.
