The Vatican 2 euro commemorative coin, issued in 2004, highlights the 75th anniversary of the founding of Vatican City State, which took place in 1929.
The obverse of the coin features a stylized representation of the walls surrounding Vatican City, with St. Peter's Basilica visible in the foreground. The inscription "CITTA? DEL VATICANO" is inscribed on the outer part of the coin, surrounded by the twelve stars symbolizing the European Union. There is also the inscription "75 ANNO DELLO STATO 1929-2004" commemorating the event, as well as the signatures "R VERDI" and "L.D.S.INC.", identifying the artist and engraver respectively. The engraver of this face is Guido Veroi.
The reverse of the coin depicts a map of the fifteen member states of the European Union, linked together, against a dynamic background formed by the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value "2 EURO" is also indicated, accompanied by the initials "LL" of the engraver Luc Luycx.
This bimetallic coin weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters. The edge of the coin features an engraving with the inscription "2 *", repeated six times, with an alternating orientation from bottom to top and top to bottom.
This is a commemorative coin highlighting an important historical event for the State of Vatican City.
