It also reads "The New Orleans Canal & Banking Comp.? will pay TEN DOLLARS to the bearer on demand". The mention of the place and date of issue, "New Orleans, _______________ 18____", is also present, indicating that the date was completed manually upon issuance.
The back of the note is adorned with several distinct visual elements. A vignette depicts the bank building, testifying to the importance and solidity of the institution. An eagle, the symbol of the nation, is placed on the left. On the right, a standing female figure adds an allegorical dimension to the design. The inscriptions "CANAL BANK" and "NEW-ORLEANS" reaffirm the issuer's identity and place of origin.
