Coin United Kingdom 25 Pence - Weeding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana - Elizabeth II - 1981

This commemorative 25 pence coin was issued in 1981 by the United Kingdom to mark the wedding of the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer. It is a non-circulating coin struck by the Royal Mint in Llantrisant, Wales, an establishment active since 1968. It is catalogued under references KM# 925a and Sp# LL4.

The coin is composed of 925? silver, with a weight of 28.28 grams and a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. Its thickness is 2.89 millimetres. Round in shape, it was produced by coin press striking, with a medal alignment orientation (??). The edge is reeded.

The obverse features the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted wearing the tiara gifted in 1893 to the future Queen Mary on the occasion of her wedding. This effigy is surrounded by the Latin inscription "ELIZABETH II D·G·REG·F·D·", whose full legend is Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensatrix, along with the date 1981. This portrait was engraved by Arnold Machin.

The reverse features the conjoined left-facing portraits of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. The inscription "H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER" appears on this side, accompanied by the initials PN ? corresponding to the engraver Philip Nathan ? as well as the date ·1981·.
