This 3 Canadian dollar coin was issued in 2021 by the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. It is part of the series dedicated to Canada's floral emblems, honouring here the plum blossom, the central motif of this Proof quality strike.
The coin is made of 999 fine silver, with a weight of 7.96 grams and a diameter of 27 millimetres. Its Proof finish gives it mirror-polished fields and frosted relief, characteristic of high-quality collector strikes. The colourisation applied to the plum blossom adds an additional visual dimension, faithfully reproducing the natural hues of this flower.
The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Elizabeth II, Queen of England and the Commonwealth, based on the official effigy used in Canada during this period. The face value of 3 dollars and the issuing country, Canada, are also inscribed.
The reverse is dominated by the colourised representation of the plum blossom, executed with exceptional attention to detail. The colourisation, applied directly onto the metal, makes it possible to distinguish the delicate nuances of the petals and stamens unique to this flower.
This issue is limited to a mintage of 4,000 pieces, making it a coin with restricted distribution among the Royal Canadian Mint's productions. This low mintage, combined with the Proof quality of execution and the purity of the metal used, makes it a precise reference in the field of silver collector coins from contemporary Canadian production.
