Description

This 2 euro commemorative coin, issued by San Marino in 2015, celebrates the 25th anniversary of German reunification, a historic event that occurred in 1990.

The coin is bimetallic, with a cupro-nickel center, an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel, and a cupronickel outer ring, an alloy of nickel and copper. It weighs 8.5 grams and has a diameter of 25.75 millimeters.

Struck in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality, this coin was produced in a limited mintage of 100,000 copies. The coin's design is the work of Annalisa Masini.

The central theme of the coin is the 25th anniversary of German reunification (1990-2015). The reunification of Germany was officially ratified on October 3, 1990, a year after the fall of the Berlin Wall, which divided Germany and the whole of Europe in two. The territory of the German Democratic Republic, known as "East Germany", officially joined the Federal Republic of Germany.

San Marino commemorates this event with a ?2 coin designed by Erik Spiekermann, an internationally renowned German designer, typeface designer and professor at the University of the Arts Bremen.

The coin depicts two images of the Brandenburg Gate joining together like two hands, symbolizing the reunification of the two peoples. This was the place where Germans from both sides met after the demolition of the wall. This gate, completed in 1791, was on the East Berlin side during the Cold War. Today, it is Berlin's most famous monument.

The coin comes in its official blister pack.
