The Demoiselle Crane (Anthropoides virgo), known in Kazakh as "Kyz Turna", is the emblematic migratory bird of the Central Asian steppes. It holds a special place in the culture and natural heritage of Kazakhstan, which justifies its choice as the main motif of this coin issue.
This 100 Tenge coin was issued by Kazakhstan in 2025. It is made of bimetal, a minting technique combining two distinct metal alloys: an outer ring and a central insert of different composition, offering a characteristic visual contrast. It has a diameter of 24.5 mm and a weight of 6.45 grams.
The obverse of the coin depicts the Demoiselle Crane, a species recognisable by its blue-grey plumage, its white ornamental feather tufts on each side of the head, and its slender silhouette. This crane is the smallest crane in the world and regularly crosses Kazakh territories during its seasonal migrations between its nesting areas in Central Asia and its wintering grounds in the Indian subcontinent.
The reverse bears the identification elements specific to issues of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, including the face value of 100 Tenge and the year of issue 2025. The inscriptions appear in both Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, in line with the country's current monetary practices, which accompany its gradual transition to the Latin alphabet.
This issue is part of the ongoing thematic series dedicated to Kazakh fauna, regularly produced by the National Bank of Kazakhstan to highlight the rich biodiversity of this Central Asian country. The bimetal technique is frequently used for circulation coins of this face value.
