Description

This banknote is a 20 franc specimen issued by the Banque de l'Indochine in 1929 for New Caledonia. The front of the note features a woman's face in a medallion on the right side. The dominant colors are lilac-brown on a pale yellow background. The Latin inscriptions include "BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE" and "VINGT FRANCS", as well as the place of issue, "NOUMÉA". The face value "20" is also indicated. The names of the artists involved in the design of the note, "CL. SERVEAU FEC." and "E. DELOCHE SC.", also appear on this side.

Ernest Deloche is identified as the engraver, while Clément Serveau is credited as the designer of the front. The back of the note depicts a peacock perched on a shrub, surrounded by butterflies. The inscriptions are also in Latin, repeating "NOUMÉA" and the face value "20 FR". The signatures of the artists "ROQUE FC." and "RITA SC." are present, indicating Roque as the designer and Marguerite Dreyfus, also known as Rita, as the engraver of this part of the note.

This banknote testifies to the economic and artistic context of New Caledonia in the late 1920s. It offers an overview of the graphic motifs and artistic personalities involved in the creation of the means of payment of the time.
