Description

The 5000 tugrik banknote from Mongolia, issued in 2003, is an item from the AK series. This banknote is distinguished by its dimensions of 150 by 72 millimeters.

The front of the banknote features a portrait of Chingis Khaan, also known as Temüjin, who lived approximately from 1162 to 1227. Next to his portrait is a Paiza, or Gerege, which was a tablet of authority used by Mongolian officials and envoys. This tablet granted Mongolian nobles and officials the right to demand goods and services from the civilian population. The national coat of arms of Mongolia is also present on this side of the note. The inscriptions are written in vertically written Mongolian and Manchu.

The back of the banknote depicts the silver tree of Karakorum (Kharkhorum). This tree was located in the center of the city and was designed by Guillaume Bouchier, a Parisian goldsmith who was then a slave. The inscriptions on this side of the note are in Cyrillic and Manchu script.

This banknote is a testament to Mongolian history and culture, illustrating important figures and symbols of its past.
