This numismatic set commemorates the introduction of the euro in Monaco in 2002. It includes the eight denominations of the European currency, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros, all specially minted for collectors.
Each coin features a specific design reflecting the identity of the principality. The 1, 2 and 5 cent coins bear the coat of arms of Monaco. The seal of Monaco is represented on the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins. The effigies of Prince Rainier III and Hereditary Prince Albert, future Prince Albert II, appear jointly on the 1 and 2 euro coins.
All the coins included in this set are of Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality. This term refers to coins minted with new striking tools. This process gives the coins a higher brilliance than that of regular circulation coins. BU coins have never been put into circulation, which preserves their original condition.
This set was issued by the Monetary Institute of Monaco. The year of issue is 2002. The mintage of this set is limited to 40,000 copies. Each coin was minted at the Monaco Mint.
