This 2 euro commemorative coin, issued by Monaco in 2024, marks the 500th anniversary of the Treaty of Burgos, a historical event that confirmed the principality's sovereignty. The coin is struck in bimetal, weighing 8.5 grams and with a diameter of 25.75 millimeters. Its mintage is limited to 15,000 copies.
The obverse of the coin features a bust of Charles V, a central figure in the Treaty of Burgos. A Latin legend encircles the portrait, with the inscription "MONACO" at the top, followed by "? 1524 - TRAITÉ AVEC CHARLES QUINT ? 2024 ?", commemorating the event and the year of issue.
The reverse of the coin features the standard representation of a map of the European continent, on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value, "2 EURO", is inscribed in large letters. The initials "LL", indicating the designer Luc Luycx, also appear on this side.
The coin's edge is finely reeded and bears the inscription "2 **" repeated six times, with an alternating orientation from bottom to top and top to bottom. The Monnaie de Paris is the mint responsible for striking this commemorative coin. The coin's thickness is 2.2 mm.
