This 1000 franc banknote, issued in 1946, is a specimen from Martinique under the French Union. It is an overprint of the P#26 banknote from French Equatorial Africa, modified for use in Martinique.
The front of the banknote, in various colors, features two female figures on the right side and palm leaves on the left. The word "MARTINIQUE" is overprinted in the margin. Inscriptions include "CAISSE CENTRALE DE LA FRANCE D'OUTRE-MER" and the face value "MILLE FRANCS". The names of the artists, R. POUGHEON (FEC.) and HOURRIEZ (SC.), are also present, indicating Robert Poughéon as the designer and Georges Hourriez as the engraver.
The back of the banknote, also multicolored, depicts a woman on the right and a boat with two natives in the background. The inscription "CAISSE CENTRALE DE LA FRANCE D'OUTRE-MER" and the face value are also present. A legal notice is printed, reminding of the penal sanctions for counterfeiting banknotes. The names of W. FEL. (FEC.) and R. ARMANELLI (SC.) indicate William Fel as the designer and Robert Armanelli as the engraver.
This banknote was printed by the Banque de France and its dimensions are 185 × 100 mm.
