The 1000 Lao Kip banknote, issued in 2020, features a rich visual and symbolic composition, reflecting cultural and economic aspects of Laos.
On the obverse, the banknote displays inscriptions in the Lao language, an essential element of national identity. The depiction of three women may symbolize the Lao population or emblematic figures from the country's history. The Wat That Luang stupa in Vientiane, a major religious monument, is also present, highlighting the importance of Buddhism in Lao culture. The national coat of arms completes the obverse composition, reinforcing the country's identity. All of these elements are printed in Lao script calligraphy.
The reverse of the banknote illustrates a pastoral scene with grazing livestock, evoking the importance of agriculture and animal husbandry in the Lao economy. The presence of electric pylons suggests modernization and infrastructural development of the country. As on the obverse, the inscriptions are in Lao. The banknote's watermark depicts a hammer and sickle topped with a star, symbols associated with the country's political ideology.
A solid security thread is integrated into the banknote, with the nominal value "1000" demetalized and text in Lao, serving as a security device against counterfeiting. The dimensions of the banknote are 152 mm in length and 68 mm in width.
