The 100 Lao Kip banknote, issued in 1957, is a testament to the history and culture of Laos. This banknote belongs to the Y.5 series and features significant graphic elements on both its obverse and reverse.
On the obverse, the text is in Lao. The national coat of arms is depicted, highlighting the three-headed elephant of Erawan, an important symbol of royalty and spirituality in Lao culture. The portrait of King Sisavang Vong occupies a central position, reflecting his role as the country's leading figure at that time. There is also a representation of the Book of the Constitution, surmounted by two royal chalices, symbolizing the importance of law and tradition. N?ga dragons, mythical protective creatures, complete the design.
The reverse of the banknote features text in French, reflecting the French colonial influence in Laos. A flowering tree is illustrated, evoking nature and fertility. The Haw Phra Kaew (Ho Phra Keo), the Temple of the Emerald Buddha located in Vientiane, is depicted, highlighting the importance of Buddhism in the country. A woman in traditional costume, carrying a bowl filled with roses during the Pee-mai Lao (New Year festival), is also drawn, illustrating local festivities and customs.
This banknote has a security thread and a watermark representing the coat of arms with the three-headed elephant of Erawan. Its dimensions are 170 mm in length and 107 mm in width.
