This coin is an Ichibu-ban-kin, minted during the Ky?h? era (1716?1736) in Japan, under the Tokugawa shogunate. It is also known as Ky?h? Ichibu-ban-kin, with a face value of one Bu, where 4 Bu equals 1 Ry?.
This coin weighs 4.4 grams, which corresponds to the standard of the time. It is composed of an alloy of gold and silver, with an average gold content estimated between 84 and 86%, although this percentage may vary slightly depending on the production batch. It is rectangular in shape, and its manufacture involves a casting process followed by punching. The edge of the coin is irregular.
The obverse of the coin features vertical characters indicating "Ky?h?" and "1 Bu". Control punches are also affixed to it. The reverse is generally smooth, although it may sometimes have a secondary workshop mark. The characters on this coin are sharper and more regular than those observed on earlier Genroku types.
This coin is listed in the Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins (Pre-Yen Japan) under the reference KM-C17. The theoretical composition is 86.1% gold and 13.9% silver.
