 For the thirty years of German reunification the Monnaie de Paris is issuing two coins representing the Franco-German couple: François Mitterand and Helmut Kohl.

The face of the coin shows the statesmanlike profiles of François Mitterrand in the foreground and Helmut Kohl in the background. Their names are shown next to their profiles. The European flag with its 12 stars is shown with the word RF in the centre. Two of the flag's stars are greatly enlarged to represent the French and German flags and thus reinforce their role in European construction. The flags are coloured on the silver 10-euro and use heraldic colour codes.

The reverse side of the coins highlights the reunified Germany by recalling the border that separated the FRG from the GDR. The words 'Thirtieth anniversary of reunification' are displayed throughout the country as if to seal the unity of the country. This sentence is also mentioned in German on the edge of the coin as well as the year of issue.
