This 10 euro silver coin was issued by the Monnaie de Paris in 2015, as part of a series dedicated to the great figures of French history. It pays tribute to Charles de Gaulle, French statesman and military leader, central figure of the French Resistance during World War II and founder of the Fifth Republic.
Struck at the Paris (A) mint, this coin has a diameter of 37 mm and a weight of 22.2 grams. It is made of silver with a fineness of 900?, corresponding to a composition of 90% pure silver. It features a Belle Épreuve (BE) strike quality, a process characterised by fine relief, smooth mirror-like fields, and matte motifs, resulting from a slow and repeated striking on carefully prepared blanks.
The mintage of this issue is limited to 5,000 pieces, making it a numismatic coin of restricted availability. The face value inscribed on the coin is 10 euros, giving it legal tender status in France and throughout the eurozone.
The effigy of Charles de Gaulle is depicted with the characteristic care of Monnaie de Paris productions in Belle Épreuve quality, offering a precise and detailed rendering of the general's portrait. This coin is part of the French tradition of commemorating major historical figures through coinage, thus perpetuating a link between numismatics and national memory.
