The Monnaie de Paris struck this commemorative paperweight medal in 2021 as a tribute to Napoléon Bonaparte, then First Consul, and his crossing of the Great St Bernard Pass. This issue was released as part of the bicentenary of the death of Napoléon Bonaparte, which occurred in 1821.

Produced at the Parisian workshop of the Monnaie de Paris (MDP75), this medal is struck in bronze and features particularly impressive dimensions, with a diameter of 81 millimetres and a weight of 280 grams, characteristics that lend it remarkable robustness and presence, in keeping with its function as a paperweight.

The chosen theme refers to the famous crossing of the Alps carried out by Bonaparte in May 1800, a major military and historical episode of the Italian campaign, immortalised in particular by the painting by Jacques-Louis David. This event remains one of the most iconic moments of the Napoleonic destiny, symbolising both the strategic determination and the historical stature of the figure.

This medal is issued in a limited edition of 999 pieces, making it a collector's item with restricted distribution. It is an official piece, produced under the aegis of the Monnaie de Paris, a French institution whose monetary and medallic history spans more than ten centuries, thus guaranteeing a level of technical and artistic mastery recognised in the fields of numismatics and medal-making.
