This 10-euro silver coin was issued by the Monnaie de Paris in 2015, as part of a commemorative series dedicated to François Mitterrand, the 21st President of the French Republic, who served from 1981 to 1995. He remains to this day the French head of state who served the longest term under the Fifth Republic.

Struck at the Paris (A) mint, this coin has a silver fineness of 900?, meaning an alloy composed of 90% fine silver. It features a weight of 22.2 grams and a diameter of 37 millimetres, dimensions that give it a remarkable presence. It benefits from a Belle Épreuve (BE) quality, a high-precision striking process characterised by sharp, contrasted reliefs on a mirror background, offering a particularly refined visual result.

The Belle Épreuve quality involves a slow and repeated striking process using specially treated and polished dies, guaranteeing a finish of a superior level to standard strikes. This type of production is generally reserved for numismatic and collector series.

The mintage of this coin is limited to 5,000 specimens, making it a confidential issue by the usual standards of monetary production. This relative rarity is characteristic of Belle Épreuve quality issues produced by the Monnaie de Paris, which are aimed primarily at collectors and enthusiasts of contemporary numismatics.

The face value is 10 euros, although its nature and striking quality make it intended for preservation rather than circulation. This coin is part of the French tradition of commemorative issues paying tribute to the great political figures who have shaped the history of the Republic.
