This 10-euro silver coin was issued by the Monnaie de Paris in 2021, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Alpha Jet within the Patrouille de France. It belongs to the Belle Épreuve strike category, guaranteeing superior strike quality with sharp reliefs and carefully finished surfaces.
The coin is made of silver with a purity of 999 thousandths, making it a specimen of very high metallurgical quality. It has a weight of 22.2 grams and a diameter of 37 millimetres. The mint is Paris, identifiable by the A hallmark.
One of the distinctive features of this issue lies in its colourised treatment, applied directly onto the metal, reproducing the characteristic colours of the Patrouille de France Alpha Jets, notably the iconic white, blue and red of France's national aerobatic display team. This colourisation technique gives the coin a particularly detailed and faithful representation of these aircraft.
The mintage is limited to 2,500 copies, making this a restricted-circulation issue. The face value is 10 euros, legal tender in France, issued under the authority of the Monnaie de Paris, the French institutional establishment responsible for producing official coinage.
The Alpha Jet, a training and aerobatic aircraft jointly developed by Dassault Aviation and Dornier, entered service with the Patrouille de France in 1981, replacing the Fouga Magister. This 2021 vintage therefore marks the fortieth anniversary of this aircraft within the aerobatic display team of the French Air and Space Force.
