This 10 euro silver coin was issued in 2021 by the Monnaie de Paris, as part of a series dedicated to the major historical events of the American War of Independence. It commemorates the Siege of Boston, a founding episode of the conflict that pitted the American colonies against the British Crown between 1775 and 1776.
The coin is associated with the figure of George Washington, first President of the United States, who took command of the Continental forces during this decisive siege. This event marked a major strategic turning point in the American War of Independence, culminating in the withdrawal of British forces from the city of Boston in March 1776.
Struck at the A mint workshop of the Monnaie de Paris, this coin features a limited mintage of 2,500 pieces, making it a particularly exclusive issue. It is made of 999? silver, i.e. very high purity silver, with a weight of 22.2 grams and a diameter of 37 millimetres.
The strike quality is Belle Épreuve (BE), a process characterised by meticulous polishing of the dies and blanks before striking, offering a striking contrast between mirror surfaces and satin reliefs. This level of finish gives the coin a precision and visual rendering of outstanding aesthetic quality.
The face value is set at 10 euros, with legal tender status in France. This issue is part of the Monnaie de Paris tradition of commemorating foreign historical events, particularly those involving French cooperation or influence, as France played a decisive role in supporting the American insurgents during this period.
