At the end of 40 years of electoral mandates Jacques Chirac will have left his mark on French political life. This was made clear by his death, which aroused great emotion among the population. So it's hardly surprising that the Monnaie de Paris is minting 10 and 20 euro coins in his honour, as well as a BU euro miniset to mark the first anniversary of his death. These are the first and only official coins issued by France dedicated to its former president.
The €10 and €20 coins have identical sides. They depict the profile of Jacques Chirac. The solemn pose of the politician refers to the iconography of his election to the Presidency of the French Republic in 1995. Jacques Chirac is surrounded by symbols that have marked his history, such as his Seal, which refers to his two terms as President, and Chupicuaro, the emblem of the Musée du Quai Branly, which recalls his passion for primitive arts. The name "Jacques Chirac" and his dates can also be seen on the face of these coins.
The 2020 vintage and the RF are at the top of the face. The reverse shows the face value surrounded by two branches, one of oak and the other of laurel, evoking the Euro symbol. The entire reverse design is framed by a series of lines representing the Hexagon. The 20-euro coin is made of silver 900‰ BE quality (Belle Épreuve). Minted in only 10,000 copies it weighs 18 grams and has a diameter of 33 millimetres.
