The 1999 French Euro Proof (BU) set, issued by the Monnaie de Paris, brings together all the euro denominations minted for the first year of the Eurozone. This set contains the eight divisional coins, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros.
Each coin features a national side specific to France, while respecting the technical specifications common to all countries participating in the euro. The French national sides were designed by different artists and feature strong symbols of French identity. The Semeuse of Roty can be found on the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins, Marianne on the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins, and a stylized tree on the 1 and 2 euro coins.
The year of issue, 1999, appears on each coin. The coins are struck with a Proof quality, which gives them a brilliant appearance and a particularly sharp relief. All the coins are presented in a case specially designed to protect and showcase them.
The fineness of the coins varies depending on their face value and metallic composition. The euro coins are made of specific alloys, such as copper-plated steel for the small denominations, Nordic Gold (an alloy of copper, aluminum, zinc and tin) for the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins, and a bimetallic alloy for the 1 and 2 euro coins. The mintage of this 1999 French Euro BU set is limited.
