 Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, published in 1870, recounts the adventures of Professor Aronnax, his servant Conseil and harpooner Ned Land, captured by the mysterious Captain Nemo aboard the submarine Nautilus. Together they explore the depths of the oceans, discovering fascinating sea creatures and extraordinary underwater landscapes. The novel is a celebration of exploration and technology, showcasing the scientific advances of the time. This masterpiece of science fiction remains a staple of literature and popular culture. 

 On the front of this coin, emblematic elements from the novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea are displayed, evoking the marine world. Captain Nemo, aboard the famous Nautilus, is in the centre, behind the tentacles of a giant squid. Beneath the shark, three divers move forward in search of treasure. In the background, the wreck of an ancient ship symbolises the characters' underwater adventures. The title of the novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the author's name, Jules Verne, and the year 2025 are also featured. 

The reverse is common to the entire ?L'Art de la Plume? series. It features a number of emblematic quotes, including Voltaire's ?The best is the enemy of the good?, Dane Alighieri's ?Lasciate ogne speranza voi ch'intrate?, William Shakespeare's ?To be or not to be that is the question? and Nietzsche's ?Was mich nicht umbringt macht mich stärker?.
