This 1000 piastre banknote, dating from 1951, originates from French Indochina. It represents a nominal value of one thousand piastres. The front of the note features an elephant positioned on the left and water buffaloes on the right. The mention "BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE" is clearly visible, accompanied by the inscription "MILLE PIASTRES". The names of the artists who participated in its creation are also present: P. JOUVE FEC., J. PIEL and G. BELTRAND SC.
The back of the note depicts four faces of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, located on the left side. A legal inscription is included, stipulating that Article 139 of the penal code punishes counterfeiters or falsifiers of banknotes authorized by law. The signatures of the engravers, Jules Piel and Georges Léon Égalité Beltrand, as well as the name of the designer, Paul Jouve, also appear on this side.
Paul Jouve contributed to both the front and back as a designer, while Jules Piel and Georges Léon Égalité Beltrand worked as engravers on both sides. The printing of this banknote was carried out by the Banque de France. The dimensions of this banknote are 270 millimeters in length and 112 millimeters in width.
