This banknote, with a nominal value of 1000 piastres, was issued in 1951 by the Banque de l'Indochine.
On the front of the note, there is a representation of an elephant on the left side and water buffaloes on the right side. The inscriptions "BANQUE DE L'INDOCHINE" and "MILLE PIASTRES" also appear. The names of the engravers, Jules Piel and Georges Léon Égalité Beltrand, as well as that of the designer, Paul Jouve, are mentioned with the abbreviations "FEC." and "SC.".
The back of the note features four faces of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara on the left side. There is also a mention of Article 139 of the Penal Code, which stipulates that counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes authorized by law is punishable by forced labor. The names of the engravers and the designer are also present on this side.
This banknote was printed by the Banque de France. Its dimensions are 270 mm in length and 112 mm in width.
