Description

This piece is a French satirical medal commemorating the defeat of Sedan in 1870. It is classified in the category of satirical advertising medals.

The obverse of the medal depicts Napoleon III, wearing a spiked helmet, chained to a collar bearing the inscription "SEDAN". He is depicted smoking a cigarette. A Latin inscription runs around the effigy, bearing the words "NAPOLEON III the MISERABLE" and "80000 PRISONERS".

The reverse of the medal features an owl.
