Description

This 50 cent emergency banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Montluçon-Gannat, with a precise issue date of February 28, 1917. It belongs to Series A and bears the serial number 135327. The printer responsible for its manufacture is Henry & Brière, whose name appears at the bottom of the note.

The obverse of the banknote features an elaborate typographical composition. The mention of the Chamber of Commerce is clearly indicated, highlighting the issuing authority. The face value, "Fifty centimes," is displayed in prominent characters for easy identification. Two ornamental circular emblems frame the main information, adding a decorative element. The printed signatures of the President and Treasurer authenticate the banknote. An important mention stipulates that the banknote is "Exchangeable for banknotes of the Banque de France," thus ensuring its convertibility and value.

The reverse of the banknote adopts a simpler design and emphasizes typographical text. It contains a regulatory text that details the conditions for exchanging the banknote, providing a legal framework for its use. Official stamps are affixed to certify the validity of the banknote. Control and authentication mentions, specific to this local issue, are also present to ensure the integrity of the banknote and prevent counterfeiting. The combination of these visual and textual elements ensures the recognition and acceptance of the banknote as a means of payment during a period of shortage of fractional currency.
