Description

This banknote was issued by the Limoges Chamber of Commerce on August 17, 1914. It represents a nominal value of two francs. The note is a type of emergency currency, issued in a context of metallic currency shortage at the beginning of the First World War.

The obverse of the note features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE LIMOGES" at the top, followed by the value "DEUX FRANCS" in capital letters. Below, we find the mention "Le Président Par Délégation" and the date "August 17, 1914".

The reverse of the note contains important information regarding its validity and exchangeability. It states that the note is guaranteed by a deposit of an equivalent sum at the Banque de France and that it is exchangeable at the counters of the Limoges branch. It is also specified that the note must be presented for reimbursement within five years from its date of issue, otherwise it will be forfeited. The mention "Chambre de commerce de Limoges" is also present, as well as the name of the printer: "IMP. P. DUMONT LIMOGES".

The printer of this note is Pierre Dumont, a printing company located in Limoges, France. The inscriptions are written in Latin. This note bears witness to a particular historical period, where chambers of commerce were authorized to issue currency to facilitate local economic exchanges in times of crisis.
