This French 100 Francs silver commemorative coin, issued in 1994, pays tribute to Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque and the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the liberation of France. The coin is sold without its original packaging or certificate.
The obverse of the coin features a front-facing portrait of Marshal Leclerc, with Strasbourg Cathedral in the background. An escutcheon representing France with the Cross of Lorraine is also visible. The inscriptions "PHILIPPE LECLERC DE HAUTECLOCQUE", "2e DB" and "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" surround the portrait. The engraving is signed Émile Rousseau.
The reverse of the coin illustrates a surrounding wall with palm trees in the background, as well as the French flag adorned with the Cross of Lorraine. The inscription "JUREZ DE NE DÉPOSER LES ARMES QUE LORSQUE NOS COULEURS FLOTTERONT SUR LA CATHÉDRALE DE STRASBOURG" recalls the Koufra oath, pronounced on March 2, 1941. The words "SERMENT DE KOUFRA", the face value "100F" and the year of issue "1994" are also found there.
The coin is made of 900? silver, weighing 22.2 grams and has a diameter of 37 mm and a thickness of 2.2 mm. Its edge is smooth. It was minted by the Monnaie de Paris. The mintage of this coin is limited to 9371 copies.
