The 100 Francs Panthéon coin, minted in 1983, is a French silver commemorative coin. With a face value of 100 francs, it was issued in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition and presented in a box.
The obverse of the coin features the Panthéon of Paris, an iconic monument of the French capital. Around this central motif is the legend "AUX GRANDS HOMMES LA PATRIE RECONNAISSANTE" (To the great men, the grateful homeland), the motto inscribed on the pediment of the Panthéon itself. The whole is framed by the mention "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" (French Republic). The engravers responsible for the design of this obverse are Jean-Claude Dieudonné and the Atelier de Gravure (A.G.M.M.).
The reverse of the coin features a rooted tree, composed of an oak on the left and an olive tree on the right, all inscribed in a hexagon. The rosette of the Atelier de Gravure is discreetly signed in the roots of the tree, on the right side. The national motto "LIBERTÉ ? ÉGALITÉ ? FRATERNITÉ" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) surrounds this hexagon. A particularity of this design lies in the orientation of the leaves: horizontal on the left to represent the color red in heraldry, and vertical on the right for the color blue, thus symbolizing the French flag. The face value "100 F" is also indicated on this reverse. Daniel Gédalge, in collaboration with the Atelier de Gravure (A.G.M.M.), engraved this reverse.
The coin is made of silver, weighs 15 grams and has a diameter of 31 millimeters. Its edge is smooth.
