This 100 Francs coin, minted in 1982, is a French silver commemorative coin. It is part of a boxed issue and has a BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) strike quality.
The obverse of the coin features the Panthéon in Paris, an iconic monument of the French capital. Around this architectural representation, we find the legend "AUX GRANDS HOMMES LA PATRIE RECONNAISSANTE", a famous quote associated with this memorial site. The inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" completes the coin's perimeter.
The reverse of the coin depicts a tree rooted inside a hexagon. This tree is composed of two species: an oak on the left and an olive tree on the right. In the roots of the tree, we can observe the rosette of the Engraving Workshop. The whole is surrounded by the republican motto "LIBERTÉ ? ÉGALITÉ ? FRATERNITÉ". A particularity of this representation lies in the orientation of the leaves of the tree: horizontal on the left to symbolize the red and vertical on the right for the blue, thus evoking the colors of the French flag. The face value of "100 F" is also present on this side.
The edge of the coin is smooth. It weighs 15 grams and has a diameter of 31 millimeters. Engravers Jean-Claude Dieudonné and Daniel Gédalge, from the Engraving Workshop (A.G.M.M.), contributed to the design of this coin.
