The 100 Francs ?Liberté? coin issued in 1986 is part of the series of major French commemorative silver coins of the Fifth Republic. It celebrates the centenary of the Statue of Liberty (1886?1986), a universal symbol of freedom offered by France to the United States, marking the friendship between the two nations.

Iconographically, the obverse highlights the Statue of Liberty, represented in an imposing manner, accompanied by the dates 1886?1986 and the inscription ?RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE?. This composition emphasizes the historical dimension of the event and recalls the French origin of the monument.

The reverse features an emblematic motif of the series: a stylized tree topped with a Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom and the Republic. The foliage incorporates the motto ?LIBERTÉ · ÉGALITÉ · FRATERNITÉ?, accompanied by the value 100 F and the vintage. This design, signed Michel Durand-Mégret, visually translates republican ideals through a modern and balanced composition.

From a technical point of view, this coin is struck in 900? silver, weighing 15 grams and with a diameter of 31 mm, standard characteristics of the 100 Francs silver series of this period. It is produced by the Monnaie de Paris with quality industrial striking, although mostly kept by collectors rather than actually used in circulation.

The mintage is significant, with several million copies minted, which makes the coin relatively accessible today. It was demonetized in 2002, during the transition to the euro, like all currencies in francs.

From a numismatic point of view, this coin occupies a special place in the series of 100 Francs silver coins. It combines a strong international theme, immediately recognizable iconography, and an intrinsic value linked to silver. It is often sought after in addition to the Panthéon, Fraternité or Charlemagne types.

Finally, for the collector, the 100 Francs Liberté 1986 represents an emblematic coin, at the crossroads of French and international history. Accessible but full of meaning, it perfectly embodies the ability of currency to transmit universal values through time.
