The 100 Francs ?Fraternité? coin issued in 1988 is part of the famous series of 100 Francs silver coins of the Fifth Republic. This commemorative issue honors fraternity, one of the three fundamental pillars of the French republican motto. It illustrates France's desire to translate its political and social values through currency.

Iconographically, the coin features a composition rich in symbols. The obverse shows an allegory of the Republic, inspired by a drawing by Jacques-Jean Barre, depicting a radiant female figure facing left, surrounded by children. This scene evokes transmission, solidarity, and national unity. The legend ?RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE? frames the whole, affirming the institutional framework.

The reverse is dominated by a tree topped with a Phrygian cap, a strong symbol of freedom and the Republic. Around this central element is the motto ?LIBERTÉ · ÉGALITÉ · FRATERNITÉ?, with the face value 100 F and the year 1988. The whole, inspired by a work by Michel Durand-Mégret, visually translates republican ideals through a simple but powerful iconography.

From a technical point of view, this coin is struck in 900? silver, with a weight of 15 grams and a diameter of 31 mm. It belongs to the category of commemorative circulating coins, although it has been largely preserved by collectors rather than actually used in circulation.

The mintage is significant, with several million copies produced, which makes it relatively accessible on the numismatic market today. It was demonetized in 2002, during the transition to the euro, like all franc coins.

From a numismatic point of view, this coin is considered a classic of the 100 Francs silver series, alongside the Liberté, Égalité, or Charlemagne types. Its interest lies both in its strong republican symbolism and in its intrinsic silver value, which ensures a certain stability in the market.

Finally, for the collector, the 100 Francs Fraternité represents an emblematic coin of the end of the franc. It perfectly embodies the meeting between political message, artistic quality, and accessibility, making it an essential base in any collection of contemporary French coins.
