The 10 franc note from Roubaix-Tourcoing, issued on August 12, 1916, belongs to the eighth series referenced R8015. This currency voucher was issued by the cities of Roubaix and Tourcoing.
The obverse of the note features a red frame adorned with leaf motifs. The face value, "10fs.", is inscribed in circles located in the four corners. A central circle at the top of the note displays a representation of Marianne. In the center, a bright red rectangle displays the value of the note in white.
The inscriptions in capital letters mention "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and "VILLES DE ROUBAIX ET DE TOURCOING". It also reads "BON DE MONNAIE", "HUITIÈME SÉRIE", and "DIX FRANCS". The note is guaranteed by the cities of Roubaix and Tourcoing and redeemable at the municipal treasury of each city from the sixth month after the conclusion of peace. The deliberation of the Municipal Council of Roubaix of August 12, 1916, is approved by the Prefectoral Authority on August 24, 1916. The signatures of the Mayor of Roubaix and the 1st Deputy ffons of Mayor, as well as the Mayor of Tourcoing, are also present. A note specifies that the note must be stamped with the dry stamp of one of the two cities to be valid. The Louis Debode printing house of Roubaix is mentioned as the printer, with the mention "Modèle Déposé".
The reverse of the note is framed in green. A central circle details the penalties for counterfeiting. On the left is the coat of arms of the city of Roubaix, and on the right, that of the city of Tourcoing. A dry stamp is also present. Article 139 of the penal code is cited, mentioning the penalties of forced labor for life for those who counterfeit or falsify banknotes authorized by law, as well as for those who use or introduce these counterfeit notes on French territory.
