Description

The North Korean 1000 won banknote, dated 2008 but issued in 2009 following the monetary reform, features distinctive characteristics on both sides. Measuring 145 mm in length and 65 mm in width, this banknote is a specimen of North Korean currency.

The front of the banknote highlights a significant place: the birthplace of Kim Jong-suk, the first wife of Kim Il-sung, and Kang Ban-suk, the mother of Kim Jong-il. The inscription is written in Hangeul, the Korean alphabet.

On the back, the banknote depicts Lake Samji, a notable place in the region. The watermark integrated into the paper represents a Siebold-Magnolia.

This 1000 won banknote is a testament to a specific period in North Korea's monetary history, marked by a monetary reform in 2009. It offers a glimpse into the symbols and places important to the North Korean regime, while serving as a means of exchange in the country.
