The front of the note features a portrait of Joseph Kasavubu, the first president of the Republic of Congo (Léopoldville), later called the Democratic Republic of Congo. The inscriptions in Latin include the designation of the issuing institution, "BNC Banque Nationale du Congo", as well as the face value, "Mille Francs". The mention "Le Gouverneur" is also present. A legal warning is inscribed, stating that "The counterfeiter is punished with penal servitude", emphasizing the penal consequences of counterfeiting.
The back of the note depicts the National Assembly building in Kinshasa. It also contains inscriptions in Latin with the designation of the National Bank of Congo and the face value of "1000" repeated.
