The 1000 Chilean Peso banknote, issued in 2020, is made of polymer. This material choice gives the banknote increased durability and superior counterfeit resistance compared to traditional paper banknotes.
The obverse of the banknote features the effigy of Ignacio Carrera Pinto. A Chilean military man, he is a hero of the War of the Pacific. His portrait is accompanied by graphic elements and complex security features. The face value, "1000", is clearly indicated in numbers and letters.
On the reverse of the banknote, there is a representation of Torres del Paine National Park, famous for its spectacular mountainous landscapes, glaciers and unique biodiversity. The illustration highlights the natural beauty of Chile. Additional details include depictions of local wildlife and indigenous motifs, reflecting the country's cultural heritage. The name of the currency unit, "pesos", is also present.
The banknote series is identified by the letters "DB". The dimensions of the banknote are standardized to facilitate handling and use in ATMs and other money processing machines. The dominant colors used in the design of the banknote are chosen for their aesthetics and their contribution to security, making counterfeiting more difficult. Micro-prints and tactile elements are also integrated to help visually impaired people identify the value of the banknote.
