The 1954 Canadian 1 Dollar bill is a specimen from the DA series. It features distinct graphic and iconographic characteristics on both sides.
On the obverse, the bill features a black and white frame adorned with abstract designs. This frame highlights the face value "1" and the inscriptions "ONE" in English and "UN" in French. The right side of the bill is occupied by a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, who was recently crowned Queen of England and the Commonwealth. Official texts are arranged in English on the left and in French on the right. The dominant background color of this side is green. Inscriptions include "CANADA", "ONE DOLLAR", "UN DOLLAR", "BANK OF CANADA - BANQUE DU CANADA", as well as the promise of payment "WILL PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND / PAIERA AU PORTEUR SUR DEMANDE". It also includes the place and year of issue, "OTTAWA 1954", as well as the titles "DEPUTY GOVERNOR SOUS-GOUVERNEUR" and "GOVERNOR GOUVERNEUR". The mention "CANADIAN BANK NOTE COMPANY LIMITED" indicates the printer of the bill. The engravers responsible for this face are George Arthur Gundersen and Yves Baril, while the designer is Charles Fraser Comfort.
The reverse of the bill features a view of a cloudy prairie located near Fleming, Saskatchewan, with the Trans-Canada Highway in perspective. The background color of this side is also green. The dimensions of the bill are 152 × 70 mm.
