The 5000 cruzeiros banknote, issued by the Banco Central do Brasil in 1984, is a specimen from the B-A series. This commemorative banknote highlights the figure of Humberto de Alencar Castelo Branco, who served as President of the Republic of Brazil from 1964 to 1967.
On the obverse of the banknote, there is a symmetrical composition with two identical and inverted images arranged vertically. At the center of this composition, the portrait of Castelo Branco is highlighted. The inscriptions include the face value "5000" repeated, the name of the issuing institution "BANCO CENTRAL DO BRASIL", and the name of the honored figure "CASTELO BRANCO". The mention "CASA DA MOEDA DO BRASIL" indicates the establishment responsible for minting the banknote. The engraver of this side is José Maria das Neves, while the designer is Aloísio Sérgio Barbosa de Magalhães. All inscriptions are written in the Latin alphabet.
The reverse of the banknote also features a symmetrical structure with two similar images inverted vertically. The central element of this side is a pictorial representation of a hydroelectric dam, symbolizing energy production. This image is superimposed on parabolic antennas, evoking the telecommunications sector. The set of these visual elements highlights the technological and infrastructural advancements of Brazil at that time.
The dimensions of the banknote are 154 mm in length and 74 mm in width.
