Description

This 2 Belize dollar banknote, issued on May 1, 2021, is part of the DV series. The front of the banknote features a dominant violet print with multicolored underprints, as well as serial numbers in red and black. In the center right is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Vladimir Tiara. To the left, a stele from the Nim Li Punit site is depicted, while in the center are triggerfish (Balistes vetula) and angelfish (Holacanthus ciliaris). The coat of arms of Belize and a silver fish facing left are visible in the lower left, and a jade head is placed in the upper left corner. A sculpture of an arch from the Xunantunich site is also present, as well as a transparent element in the lower right. A windowed security thread is embedded in the banknote.

The back of the banknote is printed in violet and red with multicolored underprints. The ruins of Lubaantun are depicted on the right, while the sites of Xunantunich and Altun Ha are featured in the center. A toucan (Ramphastidae sp.) is visible above a Baird's tapir (Tapirus bairdii) in the center left.

The banknote's watermark represents a sculpted head of the "Sleeping Giant". The banknote was printed by De La Rue and measures 140 mm long and 70 mm wide. The inscriptions on the banknote are in Latin and include mentions such as "Central Bank of Belize", "Two Dollars", "Legal Tender for the Payment in Belize of Any Amount", as well as the names of the Mayan sites of Belize: Altun Ha, Xunantunich and Lubaantun.
