Description

The 500 Yugoslav dinar banknote, issued in 1986, is an official means of payment in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. It measures 155 mm long and 74 mm wide.

The obverse of the banknote features a representation of the statue of Nikola Tesla, located in the Niagara Falls State Park, specifically on Goat Island, in the State of New York. The inscriptions "??????? ????? ???????????", in Cyrillic and Latin script, as well as "??????? ????? HA ??????????A", identify the issuing institution, the National Bank of Yugoslavia. The face value of "500" is indicated, followed by the mentions "?????A", "DINARA" and "DINARJEV", specifying the monetary unit in different languages, and "??????".

The reverse of the banknote displays the face value "500" repeated, accompanied by the inscriptions "?ET CTOT?HA ?????A", "PET STOTINA DINARA", "PET STO DINARJEV" and "?ET CTOT?H? ??????", declining the value in various languages. There is also the mention "SOCIALISTI?KA FEDERATIVNA REPUBLIKA JUGOSLAVIJA" in Cyrillic, Latin and Slovenian, designating the issuing country. The names "M. PETROVI? FEC." and "V. CVETKOVI? SC." indicate the designer, Miodrag Petrovi?, and the engraver, Velibor Cvetkovi?, respectively.

The banknote incorporates graphic and typographic elements specific to the visual identity of Yugoslavia at that time. The inscriptions are in Cyrillic and Latin script, reflecting the official bilingualism of the country. The general design of the banknote reflects the aesthetic standards and engraving techniques in force at the time of its issue.
