This 2 euro commemorative coin, issued by the Vatican in 2017, marks the centenary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima.
On the obverse, the design features the three young shepherds who witnessed the Marian apparitions, with the Fatima sanctuary visible in the background. The inscription 'CITTÀ DEL VATICANO' is arranged in a semicircle in the upper part of the coin, while the year '1917' is inscribed below, on the right side. The inscription 'FATIMA 2017' extends from left to right below the year. The mint mark 'R' is located on the left, and the artist's name, 'O.ROSSI', is engraved in the lower part. The twelve stars of the European flag adorn the outer ring of the coin. The engravers are Orietta Rossi and Silvia Petrassi.
The reverse features a map of the European continent, superimposed on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union. The face value, '2 EURO', is clearly indicated. Luc Luycx is the engraver responsible for this design.
The edge of the coin is finely reeded and bears the inscription '2 *', repeated six times, with an alternating orientation from bottom to top and top to bottom.
The coin is bimetallic, with a weight of 8.5 grams and a diameter of 25.75 millimeters. It is presented in a box.
