The coin's edge is milled and bears the inscription "2" followed by two stars, repeated six times alternating right side up and upside down.
Dante Alighieri, born in Florence in 1265 and died in Ravenna in 1321, was a Florentine poet, writer, political theorist, philosopher and politician. His major work, the Divine Comedy, is considered one of the most important works of world literature and marks the transition between medieval thought and the Renaissance. Dante is often called the "Father of the Italian Language".
